It was founded during India's anti-colonial struggle to provide modern, liberal, and scientific education to the region's youth.Affiliated with Gauhati University and recognized by the UGC, the college operates under Assam State Government management. It holds a notable "B+" grade accreditation from NAAC. Initially launched strictly as an Arts college, it expanded its horizons by introducing a dedicated Science stream in 1959.Today, M.C. College implements the modern NEP 2020 curriculum framework. It provides comprehensive Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programs, alongside self-financed tracks like the Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA).
