| General Info | The Royal Feast (or "Royal Fest") described in the Bible's Book of Esther is a pivotal event that sets the entire narrative of the story into motion.Three years into his reign, King Ahasuerus (Xerxes) of Persia hosts a lavish 180-day-long celebration in the citadel of Susa to display the vast riches, grandeur, and absolute power of his kingdom. This prolonged gala is attended by military leaders, princes, and officials from 127 provinces. It concludes with a smaller, seven-day public drinking feast featuring free-flowing wine and opulent decorations. Simultaneously, Queen Vashti hosts a separate banquet for the women inside the palace.On the final day, a heavily intoxicated King Ahasuerus commands Vashti to parade her beauty before his guests. Her refusal to comply outrages the king, leading to her immediate banishment from the royal throne. This vacancy ultimately prompts a nationwide beauty pageant, paving the way for Esther to become the new Queen of Persia and save her people. |
